We’re thrilled to announce that the Word Factory’s associate director Sophie Haydock’s debut novel ‘The Flames’ has been acquired by Doubleday. ‘The Flame’s’ explores the lives of four women who were”muses” to the artist Egon Schiele. Her novel “transports the reader to the fading glamour and glory of Vienna at the turn of the twentieth century” and will be published in early 2022. Don’t miss the Bookseller’s glowing article about her work.
We’re thrilled to announce that the Word Factory is the recipient of Arts Council funding. Here’s a message from Cathy Galvin at the Word Factory’s virtual HQ: “I am delighted we have received Arts Council England support during the current emergency – a testament to the impact of the organisation on the world of the short story and literature, and to our community of writers. More from us soon and in the meantime, THANK YOU – everyone who loves what we are doing to and to National Lottery players for making it possible.”
Thanks to everyone who has sent in work to Cathy Galvin for our new blog. We have been delighted by the response, and the flash, stories and pieces that are coming in. Submissions of 800 words or less remain open until April 22nd. Then we will read, edit and publish a selection of our favourites.
We’re excited to announce that the Word Factory has a brand new blog on Medium. We’ll share flash fiction, writing tips, and anything else in the Word Factory spirit of up to 800 words.
We’re especially interested in how writers are finding ways to respond to the current crisis, and want to help share your ideas and experiences. Please send your work to Cathy@thewordfactory.tv with ‘submission’ in the subject line.
