We were all deeply saddened to learn that A.S. Byatt passed away earlier this month. She was a generous supporter of other writers, particularly those brave enough to experiment with form and ideas, and an early supporter and patron of the Word Factory. We are indebted to her and remain in awe of her literary inventiveness and courage. In her memory, we would like to share a remarkable filmed interview, a reflection on the writing life, at a Word Factory event in London. Asked why she hadn’t kept a diary, she responded, “ I prefer reading to living”.
