Elizabeth Baines’ stories are collected in Balancing on the Edge of the World and the recent Used to Be, both published by Salt. Salt also published her novel Too Many Magpies and reprinted her first novel, The Birth Machine, which has been hailed as feminist classic. She has also written prizewinning plays for Radio 4 and for fringe theatre. Her work focusses on issues of power, in particular the power structures of language, and most recently on the power and potential tyranny of storytelling and its effects on our sense of reality.
