The Good Son, Paul’s debut novel, won The Polari Prize and The McCrea Literary Award. It was shortlisted for The Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award, The Guardian’s ‘Not The Booker’ Prize, was a finalist for The People’s Book Prize and chosen as Brighton’s City Reads 2016.
The Good Son was selected from 160 books by The British Council and The Literary Platform to be one of 12 taking part in The UK-Russia Year of Language and Literature 2016. He was also selected as one of 40 writers to be part of the International Literary Showcase and one of the first 12 to be commissioned by them.
Paul’s work has been performed on stage and radio, published in print and been translated into seven languages. He began his career as a playwright before moving to London where he wrote comedy shows, which were performed at the Edinburgh Festival and in London’s West End.
His short stories have been published in literary journals and anthologies, read on BBC Radio 5 and commissioned by BBC Radio 4. He is the Co-Founder of London Short Story Festival, of which, he was the Director and Curator for 2014 & ’15.
Paul represented the short story in the UK at the International Conference on the Short Story in Vienna and in Mexico 2015 and Turkey 2016 for The British Council. Paul’s blog for writers which posts on submission opportunities for journals and competitions gets 40,000 hits a month and has had over a 1 1/4 million visitors.
